An Introduction to IAgSA

The Institute of Agricultural Secretaries and Administrators was incorporated in 1967 and is the only professional body representing those involved in any aspect of rural business administration.  The membership currently has approximately 950 men and women.

There are 32 local branches of IAgSA - each with their programme of meetings and farm visits.

The Objectives of the Institute of Agricultural Secretaries and Administrators

  • To provide the facilities of a professional institute which may benefit those persons acting as agricultural secretaries or rural administrators;
  • To improve the standard of and encourage the extensive use of agricultural secretaries or rural administrators;
  • To arrange for formal and informal training facilities;
  • To liaise with the appropriate educational authorities regarding the appropriate training and examination requirements of agricultural secretaries;
  • To establish and maintain a high standard of professional conduct for person engaged in agricultural secretary-ship or rural administrators;
  • To establish a branch network across the UK and elsewhere;
  • To facilitate the exchange of information

The Institute fulfils these objectives by:

  • Promoting the status of an agricultural secretary / administrator as a profession
  • Holding a national conference
  • Provide a network of local branches who hold farm visits and workshops
  • Provide a Professional Development Scheme
  • Provide a monthly bulletin
  • Access to technical information and support from Industry Professionals
  • Strong links and co-operation with many other organisations and / or sectors of the industry
